Focused infrared technology

Focused infrared delivers controlled heat to a single component, without contact and without heating the surrounding assembly. The following describes how the system achieves this.

150W focused, adjustable, visible infrared

01 · Focused Infrared HeatingDirected infrared heating

150W of focused, adjustable infrared delivers energy to the target area. The heated area is visible for the whole of the procedure, and the beam does not heat the surrounding board.

Medium-wave quartz infrared preheating

02 · No AirflowNo airflow across the assembly

All heating is by infrared: the focused beam above and a three-zone quartz preheater below, which conditions the board evenly and reduces warping and thermal shock. There is no airflow to displace components, scatter debris or carry heat beyond the target.

Automatic profiling in ThermoActive software

03 · Automatic Temperature ControlSoftware thermal profiling

ThermoActive software defines the thermal profile. Profiles are created, adjusted and repeated in software without manual thermal tuning, and the same profile runs identically on each subsequent component, supporting repeatability.

Non-contact infrared temperature sensing

04 · Independent SensingNon-contact temperature sensing

Non-contact infrared sensors measure the component and the board independently, without touching the assembly. Contact probes and wire thermocouples are available across the range where direct measurement is preferred.

Split beam prism alignment at up to x50 magnification

05 · Split Beam AlignmentComponent and footprint in one view

A split beam prism overlays the component and its footprint in a single optical view at up to x50 magnification, with placement accuracy to 10 microns.
